Between the Stacks: Week of April 23rd

This is a week for book clubs at the Whitehall Community Library. The Mystery Book Club met on Tuesday, the Teen History Book Club meets on Friday, April 25 at 1 PM, and the History Book Club meets on Monday, April 28th at 5 PM. I have had a request to start a Christian Book Club, an after-hours book club, and a middle school book club. If you are interested in any of these, please let me know so I can determine if there are enough people to start one or all of them. We have great discussions in them, and it is a great chance to meet some new friends.

I am getting a lot of questions about budget cuts concerning the library. Until someone tells me otherwise, we will continue as usual. I received word that the summer feeding program will happen this summer, so there will be meals for eight weeks! Whitehall has always loved their library, and when I have needed extra funding for a project, individuals and grants have always come through. When we needed extra help last year, 23 people came forward to volunteer and take the load off our staff. This is a great place to live!

Speaking about a great community, I want to commend the parents and others who came to speak to the Head Start leaders from Helena. Although it was an incredibly painful subject for many parents, they were respectful, courteous, and thoughtful in finding a solution. The Whitehall Community Library is always ready to host group meetings, and there is never a fee.

The Homeschool Mom's Night Out is this Thursday, April 24th, at 5:30 PM. Previously, they were meeting at 6 PM, but are having entirely too much fun and needed longer! Everyone is welcome, whether you are a homeschool mother or just investigating an alternate form of education.

We just finished planning our 21st Century classes on Fridays with Mrs. Moen. In May, we will be celebrating Cinco de Mayo with piñatas, treats, music, and more. I love holidays and this one is a great chance to learn about papier mache building, how to design and create a piñata, and of course, all the fun of busting them open for the treats inside. It will be a wonderful way to finish the year.

The library will be celebrating Arbor Day with our Friday morning classes during the usual time, and then we will be handing out information at the Whitehall Community Center on resources the library has on gardening, plants, and more. I will be reading stories to the younger students during the afternoon as well. It is an exciting way to start spring.
