Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: Week of April 16th

It is always great fun to have the Montana State University student teachers visit the Whitehall Community Library. Seeing all of the enthusiasm and excitement they have for learning is a real inspiration for the future. Libraries and schools are a natural partnership, and we enjoy doing many things with our local schools. We have many types of learning in the greater Whitehall area, including public, private, religious, and homeschools. The styles are different, but the students are all discovering their passions for an amazing world that awaits them. It is a privilege to serve them all.

I have been traveling the last couple of weeks to the Montana Library Association convention and then to Chicago to visit my youngest daughter and her husband. It is so much fun to see what bigger libraries are doing and to know that no matter how big the library is, we all have the same issues and triumphs.

I have had a lot of questions about what will happen to the library in the future. The answer is it will continue to serve our patrons just as we always have. I am not the panicking type but rather the wait-and-see-what-happens kind of person. As one of my favorite characters loves to say, "It's not crunch time yet."

We have all of the usual programs this week. Don't forget to sign up for the Caregiver Respite workshop on April 18th. We need a count to have enough supplies for everyone. If you want more information on what it is all about, please call the library at 287-3763. This is a great chance for those caring for a loved one to bring them and have a great time together.

Homeschool Moms Night Out is on April 24th at 6 PM. If you are a homeschool educator and want to network with other homeschool parents, this is the evening for you! There are snacks, presentations, and lots of fun for everyone!

The Teen History Book Club meets on Friday, April 25th, at 1 PM. This group is having a great time learning about different events in history through reading historical fiction. Students may pick any book they want and then share it with the group. There is also a short "did you know this?" history lesson on different people, aspects, or events that happened in the past.

Calendars are available at the front desk and on our website at https://www.mywhlmontana.com. If you would like to use the basement for a meeting, just call the library, and we will schedule you in. The room is open anytime we do not have programs going on or another meeting scheduled.
