MARCH 22, 2000

Frontier Days expands to two weekends! The NRA Rodeo and new event - a carnival - will run July 21-22 with a parade, street dance, and much, much more set for July 28-29-30.

JTL Construction was awarded the Whitehall Road improvement project contract during the March 16 meeting of the Montana Transportation Commission. Still, like everything associated with the project, there was some controversy with the bids and contract award.

The Whitehall Road construction project, on the drawing board for six years, calls for two miles of chipped pavement as the road leaves Whitehall, then 10 miles of chip seal as the road heads north toward Boulder.

WHS CREATIVE LEADER OF THE WEEK: Justin Lucas. Justin was nominated by WHS Drama Club director Larry Brazill for his "responsibility and creativity in leading the stage crew in the upcoming production of our spring play, Approaching Zanzibar." Justin is the son of Chuck and Ann Lucas, and he has plans to attend a tech school to become a diesel mechanic. He enjoys working on ranches, masonry and assembling model trucks.

WHS STUDENT OF THE WEEK: Sienna Paquin. Since she is an aide in the office, Mary Ann Larsen says, "Sienna has complete charge of the office during my lunch hour. She is very reliable and can always be counted on to do any and all tasks assigned to her accurately and completely." Sienna is the daughter of Kathryn and Ralph Paquin. She plans to attend MSU Bozeman in the fall and enjoys camping.

WHS ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Cortney Smith, Cassie Weightman, Michelle Lofftus, Natasha Momsen, Jamie Ruckdaschel, Caterina Roennert, Jenica Dorvall, Cara Ryan, Brittany Keener, Kristy Ruckdaschel, Erin Olind, Sarah Stratton, and Dallice Smith. The Whitehall Lady Trojan volleyball team played hard and long to capture third place at the state Class B volleyball tournament in Cut Bank. The Lady Trojans beat two number-one seeds, each winning in three-game sets. They only lost to the powerhouses Manhattan and Roundup.
