Richard L. Saunders Jr. was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. A gentle giant with a kind heart, he touched the lives of many with his warmth, wisdom, and unwavering presence. His sun rose in October 1962 and set on March 11, 2025.
Richard, a proud long-haul trucker, logged over three million miles on the road, knowing every truck stop and mile marker by heart. Even after leaving the road behind, he could still recall the best routes and exits, always ready to offer guidance to those who needed it.
Though his passing came too soon, there is comfort in knowing he is no longer in pain. Cancer SUCKS. The love and support he received in his final days, especially from Janelle Hildreth and the compassionate team at HoneyBee Hospice Care, will always be remembered with gratitude by his family.
His work family deeply cherished him at Hoffman's R&M, where his friendships ran deep, and his presence will be missed. Chad, Greg, and the rest of the crew - he spoke of you often, and how much you meant to him was evident.
Richard is survived by his father, Rick Saunders, and bonus mother, Mary Saunders; his siblings, Teres Oyama (Ted), Patrick Kelley, Fred Peterson, and bonus brother James Shaffer; and his nephew, Brian Pennington (Kristienne and Theo).
His mother, Helen Kelly, and sisters, Dina, Diane, and Helen Marie, predeceased him.
Honoring his wishes, Richard has been cremated, with a burial planned for the near future. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and his journey, though ended, will never be forgotten.
