Laberta June "Bertie" Grasser passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at her home in Whitehall, Montana. She was born on Friday, February 5, 1932, at the family home in Waterloo, Montana, to George and Helen (Crossman) Hunt.
Bertie attended schools in Waterloo, Twin Bridges, Whitehall, and Butte.
She married Sid Atkins, and they had two daughters, Debbie and Linda, but they later divorced. She married Robert Grasser on April 20, 1957, in Horseshoe Bend, Idaho, and together, they had three more children: Kevin, Scott, and Lisa Ann. Bob passed away on July 21, 2000. Also preceding her in death are her infant daughter Lisa Ann Grasser, son Scott D. Grasser, son-in-law, Wayne Doney mother Helen, father George and brother, Chesley Hunt.
Bertie is survived by her daughter, Debbie Atkins Doney of Butte; daughter and son-in-law, Linda Atkins Jung and Ron Jung of Whitehall; son, Kevin Grasser and his partner Krista of Laurel; daughter-in-law, Vicki Grasser of Kalispell; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Janet Hunt of Hawaii; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Ben Makowski of Camano Island, Washington; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bertie was very proud of her heritage and family history. She was a member of the Whitehall Jefferson Valley Museum, enjoyed arrowhead hunting, and was a rock hound. She also enjoyed exploring the mountains with her son, playing cards, and playing Keno.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be conducted Monday, March 24, at 11 AM in Zion Lutheran Church in Whitehall, with Pastor James Mavis officiating. The ashes will be interred in the Whitehall Cemetery.
