Ledger Looking Back 25 Years: 2/16/2000

FEBRUARY 16, 2000:

An estimated 185-220 people came to eat and enjoy each other's company at the Sweetheart Breakfast Fundraiser held on Sunday, Feb.13, at the Whitehall Senior Citizen Center.

Whitehall Middle School sent a group of "mathletes" to the annual Mathcounts competition, held Feb. 8 in Butte. Eleven teams competed in the event, and the Whitehall team composed of Ben Atkinson, Justin Stratton, Janelle Anderson, Mikael Moore, Jayce Bell, John Burmeister, and Cindy Lofftus, plus Billy Crane, took fourth place.

WHS CREATIVE LEADER OF THE WEEK: Lacie Richards. Choir director Mary Brazil says, "Lacie's natural talent and willingness to work hard make her a valuable member of our choir." Lacie is the daughter of Doug and Jan Richards. A senior, she plans on attending college and enjoys singing, basketball, and soccer.

WHS STUDENT OF THE WEEK: Shawn Patrick. U.S. History teacher Terry Kelly nominated Shawn for his class performance and understanding of history concepts. Shawn is the son of Glenn and Carol Patrick; the junior plans to attend college after high school. He enjoys playing basketball, track, hunting, fishing, and plumbing.

WHS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Zach McLean. Zach scored 32 points in the last two Trojan basketball games. Zach is the leading scorer, leads the team in assists, and is among the team leaders in steals and free throw percentage. A senior, he is also the fifth leading scorer in the 4B Conference with 14.2 ppg. Zach is the son of Mike McLean and Darla Oakes and has plans to attend college.
