Jefferson County gets serious about winning "war on weeds": Nearly 40 Jefferson County ranchers participated in two meetings on Jan. 6, and if everything goes according to plan, they will receive grants to pay for a 50 percent cost share on chemicals and application to fight weeds for the next three years.
The Whitehall public library was burglarized on the night of January 6; a computer system, copier, security camera, and a small amount of cash were reported stolen. The estimated worth of the stolen items was close to $10,000.
WHS Creative Leader of the Week: Natasha Momsen. She is honored for being a "fantastic section leader for the trombones," according to band director Britta Oliverson. Natasha, a senior, is the daughter of Wayne and Jean Momsen and has plans to attend West Point to major in medicine. She enjoys volleyball, weight training, and outdoor activities.
WHS Student of the Week: Joe Dolan. World history teacher Rod Stout says, "Joe does outstanding work and brings a great attitude to every class." Joe is the son of Pat and Diane Dolan. He plans to attend college and enjoys hunting, fishing, and football.
WHS Athlete of the Week: Cassie Weightman. She is a team leader whom volleyball Coach Theresa Adams calls "a coach's dream." Cassie has 123 assists for the 6-0 Lady Trojans. "Her setting has been awesome!" says Adams. Cassie, a senior, is also a standout on the Lady Trojan basketball team and is the daughter of Kerry and Rita Weightman.
