Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
Do you ever wonder what librarians read for fun? This is your chance to find out! This year, the Whitehall Community Library’s winter reading program is “Who Read It?” It is open to any patron and the point is to discover which staff member read which books. There is a children’s category for younger patrons to guess and an adult category for older readers and adults. The program works like this: you get a clue every five hours you read or are read to. Each reader has ten clues: five about the book and five about the staff member. You get a prize if you guess which staff member is reading which book. The program starts January 2nd and ends April 30th. You can pick up your detective log at the front desk to keep track of your reading time and clues.
Computer classes begin on Monday, January 6th, at 1:30 PM. A couple of spots are still open for any adult who would like to join the class. For more information or to sign up, stop by the front desk during regular business hours.
The Folk Art Painting class for a new session begins on Tuesday, January 7th at 2 PM. This unique dot-form painting creates amazing wall hangings and other works to share or keep. Everything is provided for this class; we ask that you sign up so there are enough supplies for everyone. This will be a great project during the long winter months and the chance to meet new friends.
The Friends of the Whitehall Community Library have moved their meeting date to the first Thursday of each month. The January meeting will be on Thursday, January 2nd, at 5:30 PM. If your New Year resolves to become more involved in the community, the Friends are a great way to meet people, help the library, and assist in all library programs, volunteer jobs, and more.
The Kid’s Quilting group has finished their latest projects and will plan their winter ideas on Friday, January 3rd, at 3 PM. If you are a third grader or older and want to learn how to quilt, this class is for you. The library supplies everything you need to make a beginning project. Just sign up at the front desk or call us at 406-287-3763.
The Whitehall Community Library will be closed on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, celebrated on Monday, January 20th. We will be open the rest of the week for our regular hours. The general rule about library closures is that if the county offices are closed, the library is also closed. The exception to this rule is during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
