Ledger Looking Back 25 Years: 12/15/1999

The Whitehall Town Council gave final approval to the trailer park and trailer home ordinance during the final council meeting of the millennium on December 13. Still, it delayed action on a community decay ordinance after Whitehall Town Attorney Jack Morris suggested the town lacks legal authority to enact such an ordinance.

The Whitehall Senior Citizens Center has formed a Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) for the purpose of providing transportation services within the community. Services will be provided for senior citizens and handicapped individuals for the communities of Whitehall, Cardwell, and Silver Star.

Whitehall High School Student of the Week was junior Zach Phillips for his work in art class. Teacher Mike Battaiola said that Zach produced some quality silk screening work during the first five weeks of this quarter. Zach is the son of Fred and Becky Phillips and is planning to major in Elementary Education at MSU Bozeman. He enjoys sports and “anything outside.”

Whitehall High School Athlete of the Week was junior basketball player Derek Dean for his “26 points, 24 rebounds, and overall consistent play in both games this past weekend,” says coach Jeff Kreis. Derek is the son of Howard and Judy Dean and plans to attend MSU Bozeman for architecture. He enjoys sports, listening to music, and playing the guitar.

WHS Creative Leader of the Week was senior Sienna Paquin. Sienna was nominated by drama club director Larry Brazill for her “contagious enthusiasm and leadership in keeping the rehearsals and performances on course.” Sienna is the daughter of Kathryn and Ralph Paquin and has plans to attend MSU Bozeman. She enjoys camping, drama, and socializing.
