WHS Students Participate in Model United Nations in Missoula

Recently, a team of juniors from Whitehall High School had the incredible opportunity to participate in the prestigious Model United Nations (MUN) conference in Missoula, Montana. Payton DuBois, Jaeden Aragon, Miles McLean, and Landen Mitoke, accompanied by their advisor, Mrs. Kidd, represented Whitehall High School on this educational and impactful journey.

Model United Nations is an interactive learning experience designed to teach students about diplomacy, international relations, and the workings of the United Nations. Participants take on the roles of UN diplomats, engaging in discussions, negotiations, and problem-solving activities to address global challenges.

Whitehall High School was assigned to represent Switzerland, with each student placed on a different committee to tackle pressing international issues. Collaborating with delegates from schools across Montana, the students worked to form alliances, debate policy, and draft resolutions aimed at finding solutions to global problems.

This experience allowed the students to develop critical skills such as public speaking, negotiation, teamwork, and understanding diverse perspectives. It was a chance to connect with peers from across the state and gain a deeper appreciation for the complexities of international diplomacy.

Whitehall High School is proud of the dedication and enthusiasm shown by these students in representing their school and community at such a significant event. Their participation in MUN is a testament to the power of education in shaping tomorrow’s leaders. Congratulations to Payton, Jaeden, Miles, Landen, and Mrs. Kidd for their outstanding efforts!

This was a very good experience. I learned a lot about the United Nations and how to draft a working paper. The food was excellent at the food court and I loved getting to go down the waterslides after a long day of work. I would recommend this activity to all students who have the opportunity to go. Miles McLean

Personally, I very much enjoyed my time at the UN conference. We were new to the program and given short notice of the event. We were not as prepared as the other schools around us. Everyone was extremely kind, and I would definitely be willing to go again. Payton DuBois

I had a really fun time at the model UN. I made a lot of new friends and learned a lot of information. It was interesting to be a part of such an experience. After the first day of work, we participated in Jeopardy and then went to the hotel and had a great time playing at the waterslides. I made memories that will last a lifetime, and I would be happy to have the opportunity to go again. I encourage all students who get the opportunity to go to do so. Landen Miotke

This experience was an eye-opener for me. I learned about political affairs and how to practice diplomacy. I had little to no background information about foreign affairs so this conference gave me that knowledge. What I learned at this conference is something I could not learn anywhere else. Being able to participate with other smart and diligent high schoolers was so cool. This conference gave me a new perspective on how politics affect me. Jaeden Aragon
