Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
The wait is over! The Christmas At The Library schedule is set! On Saturday, December 7th, the Whitehall Community Library will open at 9 AM and close at 3 PM. The Friends of the Library book sale will be open the entire day, with hardbacks going for 20 cents and paperbacks selling for 10 cents. Children's activities will run from 10 AM to noon. The Winterwear Giveaway will take place from 11 AM to 1 PM. The afternoon activities will run from 1 PM to 3 PM, with a visit from Santa, the annual Friends of the Library reception, and music provided by the Whitehall Community Band.
For those of you new to Whitehall, the Winterwear Giveaway is a chance for those in need to pick out new coats, hats, gloves, scarves, and other winter gear for free. With winters as cold as they are in Montana, we wish every child and young adult to have warm clothing for the year. Everything is free and donated by the library patrons. Our patrons have spent the year knitting colorful scarves and hats to keep those little ears hot and toasty.
Santa has been coming to the Library for almost twenty years, and we welcome parents who would like to take pictures of their little ones. There will be gifts from Santa for everyone, and Mrs. Santa has promised to stop in and help.
For those who love music or want to sing along, the Whitehall Community Band will be playing carols and other Christmas music upstairs. We have always loved having Ron Jung and the gang come and brighten up our days.
The Friends will have their normal banquet of cookies and drinks for those out and about that day. They will also be assisting at the book sale for the day so feel free to ask them how to become involved with the Friends.
In other holiday news, the library will be closed on Thursday and Friday of Thanksgiving week, November 28 and 29. We will be open the rest of the week during normal hours, and the book drop is always open for return items.
The Library Board is meeting on November 21st in Boulder. The public is always invited; remember, the meetings alternate between Boulder and Whitehall, so if traveling in the snow is not your thing, you may want to attend here.
The History Book Club meets on November 25 at 5 PM. This month, we are discussing the First World War and different novels and nonfiction works of that era. Anyone is welcome to join us. The group picks the historical topic for next month, and new ideas are always welcome.
