Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
There are so many new people moving into Whitehall I am tempted to put up a map and mark all the places they have moved from. We have new residents from different countries, every state in the Union, and fellow Montanans who just wanted a quieter life away from all of the city's problems. It makes my heart happy that so many of them are strong readers and want to get involved with their local Whitehall Community Library. Our Friends of the Library group is the perfect way to learn about library programs, projects, purchases, and future plans. The next meeting is Thursday, November 14th, at 5:30 PM, where they will be finishing up plans for Christmas At The Library on December 7th.
December calendars will be out before Thanksgiving, and there will be a detailed schedule of the Christmas festivities. As always, plenty will be going on for everyone, and there is never a charge for anything! We are also planning our Winter Reading contest for January. Last year, we did Book Bingo, so this year, we want to do something a little different to keep everyone reading during the long winter months.
The Rockhounding Group will meet at 5:30 PM on Monday, November 18th, and the Mystery Book Club will meet at 5 PM on Tuesday, November 19th. Both programs are great ways for adults to meet new friends while sharing a common interest.
Volunteering at the Whitehall Community Library is another wonderful way to meet new people. There are many opportunities to learn to process books, help with programs, assist in craft preparation, and learn new computer skills. If interested, please stop by the front desk for more information.
I had the pleasure of handing out the grant letters at Short & Sweet last week. The Jefferson Valley Community Foundation is a group of local volunteers who spend countless hours assisting local non-profits in applying for and obtaining grant funding. They work tirelessly to raise money for their endowment, which will generate grants for years to come. The library has been the recipient of many grants from JVCF, and I want to take a minute to thank them for all they do in the community and for the library.
Homeschool Roundup meets on Thursday, November 14th, at 2 PM, followed by ART Camp at 3:30 PM. Bring your young ones to discover the world of art, science, math, and more. Supplies are provided; you never know what Miss Brandi will do next!
