Ledger Looking Back 25 Years: 11/3/1999

NOVEMBER 3, 1999

The new millennium would usher in three new faces to the Whitehall Town Council, as challengers Dick Gustin and Terry Kelly and unopposed candidate Karen Choquette all won election to the council. The voting during the Nov. 2 council election was light, with only 221 voters - about 31 percent of the total 718 registered voters - turning out at the polls.

Whitehall High School Student of the Week was Kenzie Cowling, a sophomore at Whitehall High School. Kenzie has a great attitude, is a motivated student, and gets good grades in Molecular Biology. She is the daughter of Sandi and Daniel Young and plans to attend college after high school. Kenzie enjoys cheerleading.

Whitehall High School's Athlete of the Week was three-time All-State cross country runner Mitch Cunningham for his consistent performances on the WHS cross country team. Mitch is a senior and the son of Georgia Cunningham and Don Tamietti. He plans to attend Montana Tech and become a geological engineer. Mitch enjoys hunting, fishing, and building hot rods.

WHS Creative Leader of the Week was senior Chris Dvorak. "Chris is an encouragement to everyone in the class. He is always helping other percussionists learn new parts and repairing any instruments that need it!" says interim band director Michelle Tebay. Chris is the son of Lynn and Diane Dvorak and has plans to attend Rocky Mountain College to become an airline pilot. He enjoys basketball, football, and playing drums.
