Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 9/18/2024

We are back to full schedule this week and the Whitehall Community Library is busier than ever. Don’t forget that next Wednesday on September 25, from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM our Vet Talk friend Tim Colvin will be in the library to assist our veterans and their spouses with any issues they are having or just need information or help with. This is a totally free and confidential service provided by the Department of Military Affairs, Veterans Affairs Division, and the State of Montana. Please feel free to come and meet Tim. He is a retired veteran with 20 years in service who has a heart for our veterans.

The Jefferson County Library Board will be meeting this Thursday in Boulder at 6:30 PM. The board is made up of five members: two from Boulder, two from Whitehall, and one from Basin or Cardwell. They must write a letter to the Jefferson County Commissioners and then be approved to serve. The board meets once a month unless there is a special meeting and is a great way to learn all the ins and outs of how the libraries in both Boulder and Whitehall work. It is also a chance to work with some great people from both areas.

Calendars are available at the front desk. If you are new in town, this is a wonderful way to discover all the different types of programs the library provides. This month on Thursday, September 26 at 6 PM is our first Homeschool Mom Roundup. Any parent or grandparent who is home educating their children or grandchildren are welcome to come and become part of the group. For more information, please call the library at 287-3763.

I have had the great sadness of meeting several patrons in Whitehall who have loved ones with dementia or Alzheimer’s. When we had the workshop last year for caretakers, the presenters offered to start a support group at the library for caregivers. If you are taking care of a loved one with these conditions and would be interested in a support group to come and share your trials, triumphs, and requests for information and help, please contact the library at 287-3763. If we have interest in beginning a group, I will contact those who know how to do it right.

Storytimes, Art Camp, Makerspace, Robotics 101, and Kid’s Quilting all meet this week at their regular times. Free blood pressure checks are available on Tuesdays from 12:30 PM to 1 PM by the Jefferson County Public Health Department at the library.
