Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
Norma Magee Malia Daly died August 2, 2024, at 94, in her home surrounded by loving family.
Norma was born to Charles and Amber Magee in Twin Bridges, Montana. Norma was the bridge child of five. Norma and her family moved to Dillon, Montana. Here, she finished school, graduating from Beaverhead County High School.
Norma met the love of her life, Jack Malia, while working in Dillon. They married and lived there until he graduated from Western Montana College, where he received a degree in education. Norma and Jack then moved to Phillipsburg and welcomed their first daughter, Nora Jean "Jeannie." While living in Philipsburg, their second daughter, Jackie, was born. A few years later, they moved to Butte. Here, they established their lifelong home. Following Jack's death, Norma married Bill Daly.
Norma was an avid gardener and quiltmaker. She was a particularly good homemaker and her house, where she lived for over 60 years, still shows this. She was a family convener, hosting and bringing family together on special occasions, a simple meal, or a cup of tea or coffee.
She was a member of TOPS and served in various officer positions in the group over the years.
Norma was preceded in death by the love of her life, John "Jack" Malia; parents, Charles and Amber; sisters and brothers-in-law, Celia "Montie" and Jack Brazill, Margaret and Bob Brazil, and Amber "Mickey" Butala; son-in-law, Sofus Michelsen; mother and father-in-law, John (Johnnie) and Bella Malia; brother and sisters-in-law, Joe and Edith Malia, Dan Malia, Jean and Chester Stodden, Mary and Ned Laird, Lou Ann and Eddie Mengon, and Bob Chouinard; and late husband, Bill Daly.
She is survived by her daughters, Nora "Jeannie" Garza (Emilio), and Jackie McGrath (Dan); grandsons, Lou Fontana and John Fontana (Jennifer); great-granddaughters, Cassandra Fontana, and Sierra Fontana; brother, David Magee (Ruthann); sister-in-law, Rose Chouinard; stepdaughters, Lori Bruce, and Nancy Novack (Joe); and bonus grandchildren, Mallory and Joe Mike Novack.
Norma is also survived by nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, too numerous to list; all held a special place in her heart.
A Celebration of Norma's Life will be held at 12:30 PM, Friday, August 23, 2024, in the Treasure State Ballroom of the Finlen Hotel, 100 E Broadway St. in Butte. Visitation will begin at 11:30 AM in the ballroom. The Committal Rite will follow the celebration of life at Holy Cross Cemetery on Harrison Ave in Butte. Following the Committal Rite, a reception will be held back at the Finlen Hotel.
A special thank you to Stillwater Hospice for their compassionate care of our family and mother. A special thank you to Jorden Guay, who was so exemplary in her care that Mom referred to her as "My Little Girl."
In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Norma are suggested to The Grace Fund Foundation, 3475 Monroe Ave Suite 100, Butte, MT 59701.
