Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 7/10/2024

The next few weeks are going to be magical, literally! We have wizards, magicians, and, of course, the summer reading finale, all at the Whitehall Community Library. July Summer Reading Wednesdays will include Garon the Wizard on July 10th, Kyle the Magician on July 17th, a magical African Adventure on July 24th, and the magical treats, prizes, and surprises of the Summer Reading Finale on July 31st. These programs take place at 10:30 AM and are open to everyone. If your child is part of the school summer program, they can still come and claim their prizes after the program finishes on July 25th. Summer Reading ends on July 31st, but we will still serve lunches until August 1st.

This next week is also a week of meetings. Rockhounding will meet at 5:30 PM on Monday, July 15th; the Friends of the Library will meet on July 11th at 5 PM; the Jefferson Valley Community Foundation will meet on Wednesday, July 17th; the Mystery Book Club will meet on Tuesday, July 16th; and lunches will be served every day, Monday through Thursday.

Summer is always such a great time to read! This year, I have a huge to-read pile; there are many great new series in the children’s section, as well as young adults and adults. Besides the City Spies series, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, there are also the Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books, the Princess Academy, Mapmakers, and Detective Sweet Pea for our younger readers. Young adults have been waiting for the Skullduggery set, and they are now on the shelf. Adult Books

are coming in as the summer blockbusters are released, and many favorite authors have written new books for their series. Adults will enjoy Catherine Coulter’s Flashpoint and the newest additions to two popular series “Pies Before Guys” (The Last to Pie) and a Sarah Booth Delaney Mystery (Lights,

Camera, Bones). For our non-fiction fans, we have “Return: A Journey Back to Living Wild” by Lynx Vilden, “Code Name Madeleine: A Sufi Spy in Nazi-Occupied Paris” by Arthur J. Magida, and “Mercury Rising: John Gleen, John Kennedy, and the New Battleground of the Cold War” by Jeff Shesol. We have a large history collection, our largest checkout area in the non-fiction. Patrons still seem to have a never-ending interest in the past and how it affects the future.

Stay out of the heat and pick up a great read to idle away the hot afternoons. Don’t forget our Montana Library 2 Go collection online. It is free and easy to download audio and online books to listen to or read on any device. If you would like to learn how to access it, go to the front desk, and we will be glad to help you!
