Johanna Gustavsen, a Whitehall resident since 1993, was hired as the town deputy clerk and started work in the town hall on June 29. Gustavsen, who brings 11 years of accounting experience to the job, was selected among eight candidates for the position. She replaced Valerie Anderson.
Whitehall Reader of the Week was Michele Weldon. Michele, 21, will be attending MSU-Billings in the fall. Michele reads about 30 books annually and likes science fiction, fantasy, and historical fiction. She says books can take you "to a galaxy far, far away..." Her favorite authors are J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, and Stephen Lawhead. Michele also enjoys writing herself and writes poetry, essays, and historical fiction.
Whitehall Volunteer of the Week was Barb Sunderland because of her years of community service. She is the volunteer chair of the Whitehall School Board, vice president of Jefferson Valley Habitat for Humanity, Rotary member, and member of the Whitehall Chamber and its committees. In the past, she has been secretary/treasurer of the Whitehall Booster Club, a 4-H leader, served on the state 4-H horse committee, and was president of the Madison/Jefferson 4-H Council.
Whitehall Athlete of the Week was Whitehall Pepsi starting pitcher Kay Ruckdaschel. Kay's coach says she fields her position well and is a very dependable player with a great attitude. She is one of the team's better hitters – she can hit with power and runs the bases well.
