Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Earl Wayne Nelson, 89

Our beloved husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, and uncle passed away on June 17, 2024. Earl Wayne Nelson was born in Tooele, Utah, on April 12, 1935, to Reed and Bernadene Nelson.

He graduated from Tooele High School in 1953. Shortly after graduation, he was diagnosed with Polio and enlisted in the Army to gain strength. After the army, he attended Utah State University and received his Masters in Math.

He met the love of his life on a blind date. He married Darlene Church on September 18, 1959. Later, they were sealed in the Salt Lake City L.D.S. Temple. Earl worked for IBM for many years, causing the family to live in many states where they made many dear friends. When they returned to Utah, Earl retired from IBM and started his own computer consulting business. In his later years, he spent his summers enjoying his ranch in Montana and the winter months in Mesquite, Nevada.

Earl and Darlene were blessed with three children: Robbe-Jon (Tara), Terri-Lyn Phipps, and Carrie (David) Thunell; six grandchildren: Cody (Amanda) Cowley, Ashley (Justin) Larson, Mariah (Tyler) Whiting, Cory (Lacey) Cowley, Erikka (Jake) Woodward, and Sam (Sarah) Nelson; and eight great-grandchildren.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, his sister, and one son-in-law.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2024, from noon to 1 PM at the LDS Church in Whitehall, with the funeral following. Earl will be buried at the Whitehall Cemetery.
