Montana's Destination Fiber Festival Brings Fiber Folks Together for 8th Year

There are few things left in this world that bring folks together like the Copper K Fiber Festival. The third weekend in July is set aside each year for a special event at the Copper K Barn outside Whitehall, MT, at 786 Point of Rocks Road. This year's event runs from Saturday, July 20 (9 AM to 5 PM) and Sunday, July 21 (9 AM to 3 PM).

Steeped in local history and rich tradition, this barn is the perfect setting for a destination fiber festival. Situated on a bluff above the Jefferson River, this area is mentioned in the Journals of Lewis and Clark and was used by Native Americans long before the barn was built. Mining was the original reason this large timber-framed building was built, but decades later, the Kountz family also used it as a lambing barn. Still owned by that family, they resurrected it into a wedding venue several years ago. Lacee Kountz owns and manages the Copper K Barn, but her sister, Kami Noyes, once a year, turns the venue into something a little different. This family, as well as friends, come together to put on a gathering of fiber friends like no other.

Like the historic melting pot of former uses and users, the Copper K Fiber Festival brings together 40 vendors from nine other states and all over Montana and eight teachers from all over the US. If it concerns fiber from a four-legged animal, you'll most likely find it here. With two days of shopping, the wares of these vendors are just 8 miles south of Whitehall. You will find wool of all kinds and in all forms. There is alpaca fiber and products, balms, salves, soap, lotion, leather goods, comforters, teas, seeds, beeswax candles, journals, quilts, mohair cinches, waxed canvas bags, and the list goes on and on! You'll have to search far and wide for another fiber festival like this!

And I haven't even mentioned the classes! Check out copperkfiberfestival.com! There are still some great classes with openings. Join in the fun and become part of the tradition. It's the best kind of annual reunion!
