The Rockin' the Rockies classic rock concert was on the move-literally. The concert site moved about eight miles east of Highway 2 to a 640-acre location owned by the Zuelke family. The move was designed to enhance the safety of the concert crowd and to improve the consolidation of the concert site, vendor booths, and concert camping.
Painting the first proposed Lewis & Clark Expedition large-scale mural in Whitehall was scheduled to begin at 10 AM on Friday, July 9. Volunteers interested in helping paint the murals were strongly encouraged to attend a July 7 meeting to discuss painting techniques and other details.
The Whitehall community donated close to 2.5 tons of clothing to Kosovo refugees. The clothing was boxed and delivered to Bozeman for shipment overseas.
Whitehall Reader of the Week was ten-year-old Chris Timberlake. Chris says he reads about two hours daily, and his favorite books are "Action, adventure, and scary books." He likes scary books " because they kind of like make things scary, not actual or factual, but in your imagination." Chris will be homeschooled in the fall and will be in the fifth grade.
The Kosovo Clothing Drive volunteers were the Whitehall Volunteers of the Week. Seven Whitehall community residents-Judy and Steve Schwab, Viva Schwab, Rich and Nancy Schoenfelder, and Joe and Patti Castellano-helped coordinate an effort that produced 2.5 tons of donated clothing from Whitehall to Kosovo refugees. The seven are all members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and arranged the packing and shipping of the clothes overseas.
WHS Athletes of the Week were Jake Lehmann and Danny Twomey. They were two of the reasons the Whitehall Grizzlies nearly won the Babe Ruth tournament in West Yellowstone. Lehmann pitched a complete game win and hit a triple, while Twomey played great defense and scored the winning run in a thrilling bottom-of-the-fifth-one-run victory in game one.
