Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
JUNE 23, 1999
Whitehall received $8,717 from the Forest Service to complete the concession stand at the ball fields/rodeo grounds complex. The Forest Service has awarded over $58,000 in grants under the 1990 Farm Bill to Whitehall, Wise River, Twin Bridges, and Wisdom. The four were among 20 communities selected for funding this year in Montana, northern Idaho, and North Dakota.
Whitehall Reader of the Week was 10-year-old Nelson Godbolt, who will be in fifth grade in the fall. Nelson's favorite author is K.A. Applegate, and he mostly likes action books. Nelson says he reads tons of comic books and about 100 chapter books a year. When asked how long it takes to read a book, Nelson replied, "It depends on how late I can stay up."
Whitehall Volunteer of the Week was Matt Wagner, who helped spearhead an effort to raise funds to offset medical expenses for eight-month-old C.J. Patritti. The effort-a benefit dinner and auction-raised $13,000 for the Patrittis. While Matt had a group of volunteers who helped him, he organized the event and arranged all the details that made it a success.
WHS Athletes of the Week were Mike Welch, Jamie Reiff, and Jeremy Fleege, as they represented the Trojans well at the Class B All-Star Football Game. The three WHS football standouts made key plays to assist the South's dramatic comeback in a 23-19 South win.
