Over 300 people were served, the benefit auction was a major success, and over $13,000 was raised to help defray the medical costs of eight-month-old C.J. Patritti, who was born with extensive heart problems. The benefit dinner and auction were held June 13th at St. Teresa's Parish in Whitehall.
Whitehall Athletes of the Week were Lacey Ward and Kim Franich. Both played strong and consistent soccer for the U-19 Whitehall girls' soccer team at the state tournament. Lacey was pressed into goalkeeper duties, and Kim's all-out hustle paid off with one goal and several scoring opportunities.
Whitehall Reader of the Week was Matt Mulligan, a 1997 WHS graduate who is a junior at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, majoring in political science and Russian studies. He will be attending school in Moscow, Russia, for a semester beginning in September. Matt reads a newspaper every day, and 3-4 news magazines cover to cover each week and enjoys nonfiction books, political thrillers, and contemporary Russian literature.
Whitehall Volunteer of the Week was Laura Andersen, president of the Whitehall Soccer Club and head coach of the U-19 girls' soccer team. Laura helped start the Whitehall Soccer Club 14 years ago and has coached boys' and girls' teams recently. She and her husband, Bill, estimate they volunteer about 2,000 hours yearly in soccer and Whitehall wrestling.
