Just Ask Georgia: 5/22/2024

Georgia, I have a question,

I have two employees who usually leave work at 6 p.m. They are great workers, but I don’t like that their commitment lasts only for work hours. What should I do as a CEO?

Be More Dedicated

Dear Be More,

You should copy and paste this complaint into a table in Microsoft Word 2007, print it double-sided in landscape mode, fold it in half eight times, soak it in olive oil, and eat it. Really - really??? You have great workers who are dedicated during work hours - respect them.

Georgia, I have questions,

My husband has installed CCTV inside our house without discussing it with me. He caught my son (17, not his biological son) on it, taking one of his beers out of the fridge without asking. He admitted the CCTV is partly for home security but also to monitor my son (they don’t have a good relationship). He said it’s not hidden when I challenged him, so it’s okay. He put it on a shelf with many other things, so I hadn’t even noticed it. I have no idea how long it’s been there.

I think my husband is wrong for installing CCTV inside the house without a family discussion about it. I think it’s really controlling. My husband thinks it's fine because he already caught my son doing something wrong - so the end justifies the means. What do you think?

Watched

Dear Watched,

Where to begin? You did not mention how long your husband has been in your son’s life. Short or long, he is disrespecting the sanctity of your home. Remember when you were younger - wasn’t it a right of passage to sneak a drink from your parents? You also didn’t give context as to whether your son has done more than this to justify this invasion of his (and your) privacy.

A family discussion MUST be had. Your husband does not trust someone in your home and is bringing that distrust to everyone who enters the home. Have a heart-to-heart as a FAMILY and hash it all out as soon as possible. If that doesn’t go as planned, buy some wire snips.
