Candidates for three four-year Whitehall Town Council positions, one in each of Whitehall's three wards, have until July 1 to file for office and be part of the Nov. 2, 1999, general election. The terms of council members Chuck Buus in Ward 1, Avia Timberlake in Ward 2, and Terry Ross in Ward 3 expire at the end of the year, and the ward positions will appear on the November ballot. Buus said he would not be a candidate for the town council in 1999, and both Ross and Timberlake have said they are still deciding whether they would run.
According to information received from the high school, Whitehall High School graduating seniors received nearly $110,000 in college scholarship funds to continue their education.
Whitehall Student of the Week was freshman Amber Hacker, who was nominated for doing quality work in art class. Mr. Battaiola says that in addition to her work, she is "polite, always on time, and a very honest person." Amber is the daughter of Beady Hacker. She plans to attend college and become a zoologist. Amber enjoys writing, drawing, and doing anything outside.
Whitehall Athlete of the Week was Bill Battaiola, a junior who throws the discus and shot put for the Trojan track team. Bill was a model of consistency at the divisional track meet, where he qualified in both events for the state track meet. Bill took fourth in the discus and fifth in the shot put. Bill is also an outstanding football player and wrestler. He is the son of Mike and Patty Battaiola.
WHS Creative Leader of the Week was junior Tanner Gooch. Lee Ann Gallagher nominated Tanner for being a leader all year long and also says that Tanner "adds to the fun." He is the son of Bill and Chris Gooch. Tanner has plans to attend a school of technology after graduation from WHS. He enjoys fishing, hunting, drama, and having fun.
