Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 5/22/2024

The library's new website is up and running! The new web address is https://www.mywhlmontana.com, which is short for My Whitehall Library Montana. The Friends of the Library are funding the site, which includes monthly calendars, information about programs, links, and more. As we organize it, we will post new things, including new pictures. If you have pictures to share with us, please send them to jferriss@mtlib.org so we can post them.

Eric Beal from the Montana Veterans Affairs Division will be at the library on May 29th from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM, answering questions about all aspects of veteran services. The program is free and open to the public. If you have topics or need information on a certain topic, please let me know so Eric can have the information ready on the 29th.

The library will be closed on Monday, May 27th, for Memorial Day but will be open the rest of the week at regular times. This will be a nice break before summer reading begins on June 10th. Everyone from birth to 120 may sign up to read for prizes, and once again, we will be keeping track of the number of minutes read. Readers may read books and graphic novels, listen to audiobooks and magazine articles, or read books online.

Summer Feeding also begins June 10th. We will serve lunch from 11:30 AM to 1 PM at the library. Anyone 0-18 is welcome to a free sack lunch, no questions asked. The lunches are provided by Action, INC. in Butte and include a hot entree beginning June 17th. This is our third year of having lunches, and it has been a great success!

This month's county Library Board meeting has been moved to May 30th at 6:30 PM in Boulder. For those who are unaware, the Board has five members who are appointed by the County Commissioners. Two members are from Boulder, two from Whitehall, and a floating member from one of the smaller towns whose residents use the libraries. This time, our fifth member is Tammy Murray, a Basin resident. The meetings alternate between the Boulder Library and the Whitehall Library, so everyone may have the chance to attend a meeting. The meetings are open to the public and usually last about an hour and a half.

Don't forget to pick up a June calendar at the front desk and mark your favorite programs. There will be a lot going on at the library this summer!
