The Whitehall High School band and choir earned numerous "superior" ratings, and the band even surpassed "superior" with a perfect score in one of the competitions at the District Music Festival in Anaconda.
The Whitehall youth accused of sexually assaulting a girl during a March volleyball tournament in Whitehall was sentenced to a sexual offender program and placed in the custody of the Montana Department of Corrections until age 18.
Doug Bailey began his mining career cutting survey lines in British Columbia. After additional professional mine stints in British Columbia, Spain, and Nevada, he became the new general manager at Golden Sunlight Mine near Whitehall.
Whitehall Student of the Week was Morgan Bell, who was nominated by math teachers Bill Herbolich and Bruce Bell. Morgan says, "I like the problem-solving involved in mathematics." He is the son of John Bell and Jeanne Nelson. Morgan plans to wait a year after high school and then go to college to study computer programming.
Whitehall Athlete of the Week was Krystal Redmond, a WHS junior and singles player on the Trojan tennis team. Tennis coach Bridget Welch said, "Krystal works really hard in practice, works hard to improve her game, and she's getting better every week." Krystal is playing with more confidence and more aggressively. She is the daughter of Jim and Sandy Rozan.
WHS Creative Leader of the Week was Augie Brower. Larry Brazill says, "Augie has been an active member of drama for four years and has accumulated 76 Thespian points in his high school career - the highest total in five years." Augie is the son of John and Karen Brower. He has joined the U.S. Army and will report to Fort Jackson, Columbia, South Carolina, on August 5, 1999.
