The Whitehall Community Library is excited to announce it will host a “Memory Café” on Thursday, April 11th, from 2 PM to 3:30 PM. The program is for people with early dementia and their care partners to engage in social activities and raise dementia awareness. Please call the library at 287-3763 to register for this first free session. The University of Montana Geriatric Education Center and the Montana State University Extension Center will present the program. They will be bringing their Mobile Memory Café, and it will be a great time for all. The subsequent sessions will be held on May 9th and June 12th from 2 PM to 3:30 PM.

April 7th-13th is National Library Week, celebrating all different types of libraries, from public to school to academic to specialty to medical and more. As the Whitehall Community Library continues to grow in terms of services and programs, more and more people are discovering the many different things their library has to offer. The library provides books, DVDs, audiobooks, inter-library loans from around the country, Montana2Go (online books, magazines, classes, and audiobooks), programs for all ages, and summer reading activities and lunches. The best thing is the cost; the library is always free and open to the public! If anyone has questions about library services or programs, please call us at 287-3763 or drop by the front desk for a calendar.

The Rockhounding Group meeting will hold a planning session on Monday, April 15th, at 5:30 PM at the library. They will host the Whitehall Geo group's speaker, Deb Hanneman, PhD. The Montana Geological Society (MGS) has a new quarterly magazine, Montana Applied Geosciences Magazine or MAGMA. The publication will reflect the birth of new rocks and the beginning of the rock cycle. MAGMA will include interesting geology articles focused on Montana and Applied Geosciences. Deb Hanneman, a board member of MGS, will talk about the new publication and what MGS has planned for the next several months concerning geology talks and field trips. Rockhounding meets monthly at the library, so bring your rocks, questions, and suggestions!

The Friends of the Library will meet on Thursday, April 11th, at 5 PM to discuss Summer Reading and other upcoming events. Anyone is welcome to attend the meeting and learn all the amazing things the Friends help do for the library. This month, they received two lovely gifts from Whitehall Country Store and the Wisner Family Foundation to support our Summer Reading and Feeding programs. We expect about 200 this summer, so it will be a busy couple of months!
