Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
For many years, Whitehall Rotarians have been recycling aluminum cans as one of their fundraising and community service projects. People have generously dropped their cans off at the county dump and the bin next to Jefferson Fresh Foods. Every couple of months, club members spend one to two hours sorting the dozens of bags into large white bags donated by a local talc plant. The bags are then hauled to a recycling center in Butte. Part of the money received is donated to Liberty Place to help them fund resident activities.
All the bags from the dump must be hand-sorted to remove anything other than an aluminum beverage can. The recycling center will not accept pet food cans, steel cans, aluminum foil, or other non-beverage containers. Any unacceptable items in a bag must be removed and returned to the dump for disposal. While sorting can be tiring and dirty work, the Rotary members enjoy spending time together and are thankful for the community and area support of the recycling program.
