Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 3/13/2024

Spring is in the air, and everyone seems to think of outside activities! Our Rockhounding group will not be meeting in March because they are planning a huge meeting and planning session on Monday, April 15th, at 5:30 PM at the library. They will be hosting speaker Deb Hanneman, PhD, of the Whitehall Geo group. The Montana Geological Society (MGS) has a new quarterly magazine entitled Montana Applied Geosciences Magazine or MAGMA. The publication will reflect the birth of new rocks and the beginning of the rock cycle. MAGMA will include interesting geology articles focused on Montana and Applied Geosciences. Deb Hanneman, a board member of MGS, will talk about the new publication and what MGS has planned for the next several months concerning geology talks and field trips. Rockhounding meets monthly at the library, so bring your rocks, questions, and suggestions!

The library will be having a special storytime on March 21st in honor of World Down Syndrome Day. We will be reading stories and doing crafts at all of our storytimes, which help children understand those with Down Syndrome and how to be friends with them. All storytimes are open to everyone and are held on Wednesday at 10:30 AM and 1 PM and Friday at 10 AM.

The Robotics programs were so popular that we have enough patrons to run two programs. The younger children, grades K-5, will meet every Friday at 2:30 PM. Last week they created a robot and programmed it to do all types of tasks. The 6-12 grades will meet on Thursdays at 4 PM to finish deciding on which projects they will be working on. Sheldon's program was so interesting that he agreed to return and share more adventures with us in April!

The Friends will meet on Thursday, March 14th, at 5 PM at the library. They have a full agenda and will discuss summer reading, spring programs, and more. If you want to see what the Friends are all about, feel free to come and join them for their next meeting.

The Mystery Book Club will meet at the library next Tuesday, March 19th, at 5 PM. If you love discussing a good who-done-it and enjoy hearing about the newest titles coming out, this is the club for you.

If you have any questions about our programming or anything else the library is doing, please stop by the front desk or call us at 287-3763.
