Just Ask Georgia: 1/31/2024

Georgia, I have a question,

Have you ever had a child who needed glasses and you find out your spouse “doesn’t believe in glasses”? Like, I’m not joking, he says glasses are a crutch to the body and the doctor is just trying to make money. Can this actually be real? I am fighting with my spouse so that my child can see! What the heck? Is this really a thing?

Needing In-Sight

Sight,

Wow. I’ve heard of conspiracy theorists and their mistrust of doctors, but if your child physically cannot see, then....wow. Sounds like your husband’s distrust is overwhelming. Ask him if he considers shoes a “crutch” for the body as well. Then...maybe....leave him? Just a thought.

Georgia, I have a question,

My 16-year-old daughter recently said “hell” in front of me and I lost it. She is grounded from her phone for six months and is not allowed to go anywhere but school for the next two months. What else should I do to teach her that this kind of language is unacceptable?

Manners Matter

Manners,

Yes, manners matter - but matching the crime to the punishment is also important. These days, “hell” is one of the least offensive four-letter-words she could choose to use. What is going to be the punishment when she chooses one of those other words? Prison?
