Whitehall Residents & Businesses Assist with 9th Annual SNöFLINGA This Weekend

The Butte Community Fitness Foundation (BCFF) is proud to announce the 9th annual Montana Winter Festival, SNöFLINGA, happening January 19-21st in Butte, Montana.

SNöFLINGA is a three-day community-sponsored festival run by the BCFF, a Non-Profit Organization, with generous support from business sponsors, grant sponsors, and community volunteers.

"SNöFLINGA has become a gentle force that inspires our community to try new winter activities and stay engaged during the cold winter months. This festival is incredibly unique in its ability to bring together people of all ages from all sorts of backgrounds and thrives because of the people of Butte invested in it," commented Jenny Heglund, BCFF Board Member.

SNöFLINGA began in 2016 as a small winter festival with a few outdoor activities and has expanded to include over 18 activities across eight different venues. The winter festival highlights the everyday opportunities offered in the Butte area such as cross-country skiing, ice skating, curling, local walking trails, and much more!

"When this started, I was constantly hearing people say how much they hate winter. Now, nothing makes me happier than being asked, 'So when is SNöFLINGA?'" added Heglund.

Opening ceremonies will be held at the Butte High Altitude Skating Center on Friday, Jan 19th, 2024, from 5 PM to 9 PM and events will continue through Sunday in and around the community of Butte.

Whitehall resident, Sage Mountain Center business owner, and 2015 US Figure Skating Adult National Champion Chris Borton will teach figure skating basic skills Sunday, January 21 at the Butte Community Ice Center from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM and again from 2 PM to 3 PM.

Figure skating is the most watched Olympic sport and for good reason! The intense technical precision of steel blades on ice, blended with the artistic nuance of dance makes for a super fun experience. Now you will have a chance to get a taste of what it takes to begin. With a little determination, knowing the right techniques, and a little practice, learning how to figure skate can be easy and a lot of fun. Whether your goal is to skate backward, spin really fast, or just feel more comfortable skating in outdoor parks, this class will show you the basics. Please note: you must have your own figure skates to bring to this event.

Whitehall Chamber of Commerce member Homestake Lodge will host many of the SNöFLINGA events throughout the weekend, including Open Ski (Saturday (9 AM - 4 PM), Classic Skiing Lessons (Saturday 9:30 AM - 11 AM and 1:30 PM - 3 PM; Sunday 9:30 AM - 11 AM and 1:30 PM - 3 PM), Skate Ski Lesson (Saturday 10 AM - 11:30 AM; Sunday 10 AM - 11:30 AM and 1 PM - 2:30 PM), and Learn to Snowskate (Sunday 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM).
