My Perfect Christmas - a Holiday Poem
My home will be perfect, and food will be grand,
This year’s plans for Christmas are the best in the land.
My tree will be pretty, the decorations all even,
The day will be “A-1” you’d best be believing.
The week before Christmas I looked at my lists,
Turned my eyes up to Heaven and shook both my fists.
My cards are not mailed, they’re not even stamped,
My tree is now crooked, it’ll soon need revamped.
My house is not clean, and the gifts are not wrapped,
My patience and energy levels are zapped.
“To Do” lists are growing, it’s looking quite bleak.
I don’t know if I can survive one more week.
I’ve made it to the Eve of Christmas at last,
I hope the next twenty-four hours go fast.
The stockings are hung where they’re easy to see,
The presents are wrapped and placed under the tree.
The night passes quickly, the morning explodes,
The pile of presents soon starts to erode.
I went to the kitchen to get started on lunch
To offer my guests something yummy to munch.
I tripped on the cat, dropped the ham on the floor,
Then slammed my thumb in the hot oven door.
I burned all the cookies, the house it now reeked,
In the middle of chaos, the smoke alarm shrieked.
The guests soon arrived, and the company was great,
But the food was not ready; they’d be forced to wait.
The cold stuff was now warm, the hot stuff now cold.
My plans for perfection were starting to fold.
As I looked ‘round my table surrounded by friends,
I hoped that my blessings like this wouldn’t end.
To heck with perfection, it’s over-rated I hear,
But I’ll try to achieve it again the next year.
Hope your blessings are many; may your troubles be few,
Take a minute this Christmas and enjoy those with you.
Approach things with humor and don’t be too stressed.
Have a very Merry Christmas – I hope it’s your best!
