Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 11/1/2023

With all of the holiday activities beginning to start, we are going to begin the Holocaust Project again in January. Thursday evenings are especially booked this time of year, and everyone agreed the subject was not conducive during the joy of the season. Everyone has books to read, and this will give them a chance to catch up before the first meeting on January 25th at 6 PM.

The Library will be closed on Friday, November 10th, for Veteran’s Day but open on Saturday. The Library will also be closed on November 23rd and 24th for Thanksgiving. We will be open regular hours the rest of the week.

The Christmas Festival is just around the corner and the Library is collecting new hats, gloves, warm socks, and new or slightly used coats for the children in the area. Every year we give out winter wear to almost 200 preschoolers, children, and young adults. This winter seems to be starting early so if you would like to contribute items, please drop them by the Library.

Registrations for the Fraud Bingo are filling up so if you would like to come, please sign up this week or next. Blair Stapleton, the Investor Education & Public Outreach Coordinator for the Office of the Montana State Auditor is coming to do a fun and educational program on how to protect yourself against fraud in the age of technology. The program will be held on Tuesday, November 14th from 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM at the Library. There will be a free lunch served, a short educational presentation, and then a great time of Fraud Prevention Bingo.

The Commissioner of Securities and Insurance staff will be hosting this event to educate seniors (60+) on the importance of “defending their dollars” against different types of investment scams. The event will last about one hour, starting with an educational presentation and ending with a fun game of Bingo based on information the seniors learned. Lunch will be provided for attendees – they just have to call the library to sign up ahead of time at (406) 287-3763. There will be prizes, freebies, and more. Because we need a count for lunch, please call the Library and let us know you are coming.

New mysteries are coming in by the boxful, including works by James Patterson, Kate Carlisle, Amanda Flower, and more. I love Dianne Freeman’s Countess of Harleigh Mysteries and TE Kinsey’s Lady Hardcastle series, so it was great fun to see their new additions. Children’s mysteries are also coming in as the new City Spies is coming out in January and the new Myrtle Hardcastle installment just arrived.

Mysteries are a great way to spend an afternoon as they are entertaining and often short and sweet to read. Come pick a great read today!
