Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 10/25/2023

Fraud is a problem for everyone these days, but for our seniors who are not as tech-savvy, it can be devastating. Blair Stapleton, the Investor Education & Public Outreach Coordinator for the Office of the Montana State Auditor is coming to do a fun and educational program on how to protect yourself against fraud in the age of technology. The program will be held on Tuesday, November 14th from 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM at the Library. There will be a free lunch served, a short educational presentation, and then a great time of Fraud Prevention Bingo. There will be prizes, freebies, and more. Because we need a count for lunch, please call the Library and let us know you are coming. The number for the Library is 287-3763.

The Holocaust Book Discussion Group will meet on Thursday, October 26th at 6 PM. Teens and adults are welcome to come and learn about this most important subject.

The History Book Club is meeting on Monday, October 30th, at 6 PM. This month the group is reading a biography of someone who changed the world, either for good or bad. It will be a fun evening learning who members picked and why.

STEM Camp meets on Thursday, October 26th, at 2 PM. Everyone is invited to join Miss Brandi and learn about different types of experiments they can do about the natural world.

In order to honor our veterans, the Library will be closed along with the county offices on November 10th for Veterans Day. We will be open regular hours the rest of the week. We will also be closed on Thursday and Friday of Thanksgiving so our staff may enjoy the holiday with their families.

The question of the week is “What happens to the money from the book sale that is in the plastic box?” The answer is that it provides many of the things needed for our children, teens, and adult programs such as materials for crafts, speakers, food for special student country programs, and more. It also lets the Friends purchase things like new computers, provide funding for transporting meals from Butte during the summer feeding program, purchase, or replace furniture, and buy extra new books, and other items for the Library. Patrons often leave extra change, make donations, tip the staff, as well as buy books. All of this money goes to the Friends to provide so many extras outside of the regular Library budget. At ten and twenty cents a book, the book sale is a great bargain for anyone!
