Delmoe Lake Claims Life of Young Female

A 911 distress call of two individuals kayaking at Delmoe Lake on Sunday, August 27, 2023, resulted in tragedy.

Jefferson County Undersheriff James Everett said a male and a female were kayaking at Delmoe Lake Sunday evening; their kayak tipped and the male could not account for the female and called 911.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Jefferson Valley Search & Rescue and EMS, Butte Life Flight, and Gallatin Search & Rescue were dispatched, though Gallatin S&R was canceled once the Butte Life Flight helicopter discovered the drowned female’s body.

The drowning victim’s name has not yet been released as family members are being notified, but Everett did say the female, in her early twenties, was local to Montana.
