Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 8/23/2023

It seems like this summer flew by. I can’t believe I am putting the notice in this week’s column that we will be closed on Labor Day, September 4th. We will be open on Saturday for regular hours and again on Tuesday. The Library follows the County closing schedule so if anyone isn’t sure if we will be closed or not just look at the front door. We try to post closings a week in advance so everyone can see them.

History Book Club will meet on Monday, August 28th at 6 PM. We are reading something from everyone’s to-be-read pile. Readers always have a stack of books going that they want to read but other books get in the way. This is a chance to get at least one book finished and off the stack!

September calendars are out and packed with programs for the fall. We will have different children’s groups and classes coming in and out of the Library every day of the week so please be careful around our crossing lanes.

The Book Sale is filling up with discards from different areas of the Library. We are weeding the YA, Adult Fiction, and Adult Non-Fiction areas of the collection to make room for new additions. Thanks to Dorie Westhoven, the sale is organized into different interest areas and the fiction section is in alphabetical order by author. Books are 10 cents for paperbacks and 20 cents for hardbacks. There is no limit on the number of books you may buy. There are books from every area of the collection for sale as well as donations from the public. All proceeds from the sale go to the Friends to support the many programs the Library holds each year, including the Summer Reading and Feeding Programs.

Thank you to the Whitehall Garden Club and especially all the volunteers who have been weeding the flower beds in front of the Library! They are looking great and the flowers are beautiful.

We have been assisting many patrons with their property tax rebate forms. The site is bookmarked on the Library’s adult computer #10 and the Cadastral map is as well. If you need a GEO number to fill out the rebate form, the map will show you the number for your property if you type in your name or address. The form itself is very short and can be filled out and submitted online. We also have printed copies of the form if anyone would like to mail one in.
