Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
The July 11 meeting of the Jefferson County Commissioners was held in Whitehall at the Borden’s conference room. During this meeting, two items of Whitehall importance were discussed: the consideration of lowering the speed limit on Mormon Lane and allegations of animal abuse on Ringing Rocks Rd.
Commissioner Kory Kirsch said that a traffic study to see if lowering the speed limit is feasible costs about $40,000 and requested that area residents voice their opinion about lowering the limit from 35 mph to 25 mph before the study is approved.
“We don’t want to invest county money in this if it isn’t actually wanted,” he said. Comments may be mailed to the Commissioners (PO Box H, Boulder, MT 59632) or called in at 406-225-
In regard to the animal abuse allegation, Melody Marker and several other neighbors from the area said the animals at 178 Ringing Rocks Road were in deplorable conditions. Property owner Bobbi Coffey was at the meeting as well and noted that the County Sanitarian had a veterinarian visit her property and no citations were made.
As these allegations were not on the agenda, they could not be discussed by the Commissioners. The situation is on the agenda for the July 25th Commissioner meeting at 1:30 PM.
