Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 6/28/2023

This Thursday at 5 PM the Whitehall Community Library will hold Middle Teen Madness for any young person who likes to play games and is 12 years of age or older. There will be snacks and all types of board games. This is a great chance for new residents and old, to come and meet new friends or just spend time with old ones.

The Library will be closed on the Fourth of July for the holiday but open on Monday and Wednesday for regular hours. We are having a special guest on Wednesday at 10:30 AM for Summer Reading as a friendly wizard is stopping by to perform his feats of magic for us. A former professor at the University of Montana, this wizard has a great program of chemistry and science planned for our readers.

The Library will be serving lunches (which include breakfast snacks) until July 27th. There will be no lunches on July 3rd and 4th as the kitchen in Butte will be closed on those two days. You can pick up lunch for any child under the age of 18 between 11:30 AM and 1 PM. Lunches are free and there is no paperwork to fill out.

Open Painting has really taken off as children, young adults, and adults are discovering the joys of painting with various media and in different styles. Watercolors, tempera paint, and paint-by-number projects are underway on Thursdays from 3 PM to 4 PM. If you would like to join the group, just come to any session, and pick your project.

Many of you have started bringing summer reading sheets in to claim prizes. Just a reminder that the first prize is a free movie or snack pass, the second level is a free meal at Subway, and the third level is a trip to the prize store in July. Because of the size of the store, we only set it up for one day, July 26th, at 10:30 AM. The first and second-level prizes may be picked up at any time upon completion of the first and second set of footprints. There is still time to join the summer reading program and it is open to all ages, even adults.

Calendars will be out at the end of this week for July. I am often waiting on program presenters to confirm their dates and times to avoid changes in the schedule, so I do the calendars the last week of the month. It is easier to put out a completed calendar than have to constantly make changes if it is out too early and disappoint little ones if their favorite programs do not happen. I apologize to those like myself who like to have their calendars planned through December, yes, I really do!
