The Whitehall Business Association (WBA) selected the Grand Marshals for the Frontier Days parade by nominating Lisa Schmidt and Michelle Tebay to serve as parade Grand Marshals. Tebay and Schmidt were the founders and leaders of the “One Good Cow” program, a nationwide effort that called for the donation of livestock to blizzard and flood-stricken ranchers in South and North Dakota. The “One Good Cow” effort received national attention and was recognized as an example of a well-organized and well-executed volunteer program.

On Sunday, May 24, Keven Brewer of the Transportation Department out of Butte, received a call about 8:30 pm reporting a rock slide on State Highway 2. The rock slide was located by highway marker 68, two miles west of Cactus Junction. The north side loosened by causes unknown and dumped tons of rock across the highway. The largest rock was estimated to weigh up to 60 tons. The highway was closed and cleanup was postponed until a geologist could survey the site and determine how to stabilize the rock face.

Whitehall Student of the Week was freshman April Adams. April was chosen because of her creative efforts in art class. She is the daughter of Harriet Adams and hopes to later go into special effects for movies. She enjoys collecting swords and shields, camping, fishing, and drawing.

Whitehall Athlete of the Week was Mike Welch. Despite being hampered by an injured ankle, Mike had the jump of his life at the divisional track meet and took first place in the triple jump. Welch also qualified for the state meet in the high jump and is part of the Trojan 400-meter relay team. Mike, a junior at WHS, is the son of Mike and Cindy Welch.
