Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Ledger Looking Back: May 20, 1998

MAY 20, 1998

The race in the Republican primary election for Senate District 20 saw current State Representative Duane Grimes running against current State Senator Dan Hurwitz, and despite the relatively high-profile stature of the two candidates, the campaign was relatively quiet. That wasn’t exactly how the candidates wanted it. Both Grimes and Hurwitz were pounding the district (all of Jefferson, Meagher, and Broadwater counties and parts of Lewis & Clark and Cascade counties) looking for support. Instead, they found indifference.

The Whitehall Town Council, led by Mayor Dale Davis and council member Chuck Buus, grilled representatives of Sharbono Construction and Damschen & Associates about water tank warranty and water tank quality during a special Whitehall Town Council meeting on Monday, May 18. The meeting ended without a decision, but it did end with a timetable and options for the council to consider. The special council meeting was held to obtain answers from the water tank contractors - Sharbono - and the Whitehall water improvement project engineers - Damschen & Associates - about the leakage problems that plagued the 500,000-gallon tank since it was erected in 1997.
