Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 5/3/2023

It was quite the Arbor Day celebration here on Friday, April 28! We had 159 preschoolers and elementary children here for some great activities with Deanna Mydland from PBSKids. Everyone was sporting nature crowns, bird feeders, and miniature working lung machines. It was a wonderful day and we loved having Deanna here!

This week is National Children's Book Week and in honor of Cinco de Mayo, we will be having a special story time on Friday with international tales and treats! Then on May 12, Deanna Mydland will be back for her last Storytime. We will miss her but are excited to see what she does next!

The Friends will be meeting on May 11th at 5 PM in the basement. You may notice how nice the carpets look as the Friends provided the funding to have them cleaned. That is just one of the many things they do to support the Library. If you would like to become a Friend, just come to the next meeting, and join the fun.

You may notice a few Reader's and Watcher's advisories posted in the stacks. Our volunteers are working on collections of genres the public is asking for such as Hallmark mysteries, British series, mystery series, children's sets, and more. Marta has just finished gathering our British mystery series on DVD and the list will be hanging in the DVD section.

Calendars are out and the programming schedule is lighter than normal due to staff vacations and summer reading planning. We will be finishing several programs this month until next year, but the summer will be filled with new and fun things to do. If you are a teenager ages 12-20 and would like to join the Holocaust Project when it begins next September, please let me know. Just call the Library at 287-3763 to sign up so I can plan for the fall.

Question of the week: Why should we put the books we use in the Library in the book drop when we are finished and not back on the shelf? The answer is that many times books shelved by the public are not returned to the correct place. It is much easier for us to put books away, especially if children are sticking them in stacks than have to hunt for a book not in the right place and therefore considered lost. We do not mind shelving them so others may find them easily.

The Library will be closed as usual on Memorial Day but open the rest of the week at regular times. The Library's hours are Mondays and Wednesdays 9 AM - 7 PM; Tuesdays and Thursdays 11 AM - 7 PM; Fridays from 9 AM - 5 PM; and Saturdays from 9 AM - 1 PM. The book drop is always open if you need to return items.
