Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
This Friday is PBSKids Storytime with Deanna Mydland, our own special word wizard. She always comes with multiple crafts, stories, games, and other activities for our youngest readers. Storytimes will be at 9:30 AM, 10:30 AM, and 1 PM. We are always excited to see all the great things she has to do.
One of the most interesting things about authors is how they can completely change their writing styles and assume other identities when exploring different genres. I was recently told to read the Robert Galbraith and the Cormoran Strike mysteries, as I am always looking for new books for the Mystery Book Club. They are longer than many other mysteries but interesting in the fact that the main character is not the typical gun-carrying, action hero, but instead is a quiet and thoughtful man who solves his cases with his brain. What really surprised me was the author is an alias for J. K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series. I have also learned the books are a television series in Britain so I will be looking into ordering them for our mystery fans.
Mike Dennison visited the Library last week and presented a fascinating program on the power of the media when used by political leaders. His discussion of the Russian leadership and the Ukrainian invasion, the Nazis and the Holocaust, and how the media is involved in political decisions in the modern world was well received by our teens and adults alike. He answered questions about his life as a journalist in Montana as well as commented on many current issues. It was a lively afternoon and very informative.
This is the last week for the SAILS exercise class. It has been a great class and I want to thank Holly Harper for her hard work in teaching not only this class but another one right before it! I wish I had that kind of stamina. I am exploring other senior programs to continue to improve the health of our seniors in the future.
The Holocaust Book discussion group will meet on Thursday, March 30, at 6 PM. The group is open to anyone interested in this period of history. There is a special Holocaust book collection that is open to the group to learn about this era. The Holocaust Project teens will be meeting the same day at 5 PM to finish up plans for the Los Angeles trip in April.
Speaking of April, calendars will be out soon at the front desk. The programming schedule will be a little lighter that month as staffing is different to cover the L.A. Holocaust trip. May will be our lightest month as we will be finishing up the planning for summer reading. Always planning ahead at the Library!
