Trojans Fight Hard at Districts

The Whitehall Trojans and Lady Trojans put their best foot forward at the Districts Basketball tournaments held Thursday - Saturday, February 16-18 in Belgrade.

The sixth-seeded Lady Trojans took on the number three seed Manhattan on Thursday evening. Unfortunately, they lost 37-27.

"We came out and competed and played hard. Defensively we did our jobs," said WHS Lady Trojan basketball coach Kelly Nieskens. "Offensively, we struggled to score points. In Districts, that just isn't going to get it done."

In consolation bracket, on Saturday the Ladies lost to Townsend 55-52.

"We had our chances in both games to capitalize and just weren't able to. It wasn't from lack of effort or trying." Nieskens said, adding that the team only loses one senior this year (Maxine Hoagland) and he looks forward to expanding on the growth the girls made this year.

The sixth-seeded men's team faired better, winning their first outing against Townsend (3) Thursday afternoon 41-40. They took on Manhattan (2) on Friday losing out 36-66. In consolation, they played Boulder, losing 40-70.
