Grapplers in Three Outings to Kick Off New Year

The Whitehall Wrestling team had a busy week. This started with a match against Townsend on January 3. As Whitehall co-ops with Harrison, this dual was held at the Harrison gym. The match started with eighth graders Tucker Witzel, and Gunner South, as well as sophomore Sam Valov and junior Reilly Slater being able to take forfeits in their respective weight classes and earn the team six points each. This was followed by pins from sophomores Cody Fuller and Ethan Wock, and seniors Dane Hoover, Gavin Watson, Miles Hoerauf, and Leo Scafani.

Senior Kyle Denny won by 10-2 and junior Wesley Bigger lost his match. The final score for the night was Whitehall 64, Townsend 6.

Other matches that night included wins by seniors Nick Denny and Karson Klapan, eighth-grader Braxton Walker, and sophomore Ethan Wock. Losing their matches were eighth-grader Levi Fuller and senior Blake Ritz.

On Thursday, January 5th, several members of the team traveled to Manhattan for a mixer. Team scores were not kept.

Competing for Whitehall were Slater, Klapan, L. Fuller, Valov, Ritz, N. Denny, Walker, eighth-graders Joey Beebout, Adam Martinez, Jack Raty, Anthoney Porter, and freshman Cinch Cogdill.

On the sixth, the team traveled to Bozeman for their annual tournament. This tournament included most of the large schools in the state and several from Wyoming. Highlights included senior Miles Hoerauf's fourth-place finish, senior Leo Scafani finishing fifth, and freshman Alexas Rector placing sixth in their respective weight classes. Weekend records were, Hoerauf (4-2), Scafani (4-2), Rector (1-3).

Others to compete in the varsity tournament were Witzel, junior Isaac Skogen, Valov, Biggers, Hoover, K. Denny, Watson, and C. Fuller. Saturday, these were joined by N. Denny, Walker, Cogdill, Raty, South, Beebout, L. Fuller, Klapan, Martinez, and Porter in the JV tournament.

Whitehall made a good showing as many placed in the tournament. The final results and records are as follows:

• 1st place Kyle Denny (5-2)

• 2nd Witzel (1-3), Watson (3-3), Wock (2-3)

• 3rd Biggers (5-3), Hoover (5-3)

• 4th Skogen (2-4), C. Fuller (4-4), N. Denny (1-2), Klapan (1-2)

• 5th Valov (1-4), Cogdill (1-2), Raty (1-2), South (0-2), Beebout (1-2), L. Fuller (1-2), Martinez (0-2), Porter (1-2)

• 7th Walker (0-2)

This weekend the team will travel to the Choteau Classic tournament.
