Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana
The Ruby Valley Medical Center (RVMC) is pleased to announce that Jess Svingen, DO, has agreed to join the medical team to see patients for osteopathic manipulative therapy and urgent care every Friday starting in January 2023. Dr. Svingen will also be available to provide care in the ER when she is not seeing patients in the Sheridan clinic.
“We have needed a physician who can provide osteopathic manipulative therapy for the patients in the Ruby Valley community,” said Landon Dybdal, RVMC’s CEO. “Dr. Svingen’s interest in providing this service plus urgent care on a part-time basis really works out well for us.”
According to the American Osteopathic Association, “Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment, or OMT, is a set of techniques used by Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine to diagnose, treat and prevent illness and injury. Using OMT, a DO moves a patient’s muscles and joints using techniques including stretching, gentle pressure, and resistance. OMT can help patients of all ages and backgrounds. Although it is often used to treat muscle pain, it can also help provide relief for asthma, sinus disorders, migraines, and carpal tunnel syndrome.” Dr. Svingen studied OMT as an integral part of her medical training at the Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine in Yakima, Washington.
Born and raised in Glasgow, Dr. Svingen is a third-generation Montana native. She is proud of her rural Montana background which she finds provides insights that allow for better care of her rural patients. Dr. Svingen graduated from Montana State University in Bozeman, majoring in biomedical and neuroscience. She did her residency primarily at Henry Ford Allegiance Health in Jackson, Michigan, and completed her residency in West Virginia. Dr. Svingen returned to Montana in October 2020, to provide family medicine and emergency care at Madison Valley Medical Center in Ennis. “I chose to provide family medicine in a rural area because it allows for a work/family life balance and more versatility,” said Dr. Svingen. “I can always expand into emergency medicine or do more OMT. It gives me more options and I like that.” Dr. Svingen left Madison Valley Medical Center at the end of 2021 to attend to the needs of her young, growing family but she looks forward to working with patients again in 2023.
