Whitehall wrestlers traveled to Anaconda on December 19th for a pre-Christmas dual. When the dust settled Whitehall had fallen to Anaconda 42-30.
The large crowd was treated to 20 individual matches. The evening started with the varsity matches, and because of injury and illness, several of the younger wrestlers were able to get varsity experience. At 103, eighth-grader Gunner South lost to Wyant; at 113 eighth-grader Tucker Witzel overpowered Pesanti with a second-period pin. Junior Isaac Skogen lost to Miller at 120. The Blodnick brothers beat both junior Reilly Slater at 126 and sophomore Levi Fuller at 132. At 145, senior Blake Ritz lost to Fortier.
At 152, senior Gavin Watson dominated with a first-period pin over Barber. Trojan junior Wesley Biggers moved up a weight class to 160 and fell to Sawyer. Senior Kyle Denny, 170, received a forfeit and at 182 senior Miles Hoerauf earned a first-period pin. Senior Karson Klapan, 205, had a tight battle with Laymen. After six minutes, Klapan came out on top with a 7-6 win. Senior Leo Scafani finished the varsity squad with a 5-3 win over Miller.
The JV squad finished well, also. Eighth-grader Adam Martinez, 103, had the high point for the night. He was ahead of Selvig 16-6 before pinning him in the third period. Senior Nick Denny, 145, controlled Fortier with a first-period pin. Cassidy Collins, 126, had two matches, losing to both Warner and Hoiland. Eighth-grader Braxton Walker, 138, beat Kercis with a come-from-behind third-period pin. Freshman Cinch Cogdill lost to Laymen at 205. Sophomore Ethan Wock earned a quick first-period pin over Buchanan at 182. Eighth-grader Jack Raty, 145, dominate with a first-period pin over Barber and eighth-grader Joey Beebout finished the night with a loss to Collin at 138.
Whitehall's next competition will be against Townsend on January 3, in Harrison, followed by the Bozeman tournament on January 6th and 7th.
