Hoerauf Places 2nd, Scafani 7th at CMR; Witzel and Wock Place 2nd at Great Falls

Trojan wrestling journeyed to Great Falls to participate in two different tournaments this passed weekend. On Friday, December 16, the CMR Holiday Classic started with both girl's and boy's divisions. This was the largest tournament in the state for this weekend. The AA, A and many of the class B schools were there. Varsity wrestlers competed throughout the day with senior Miles Hourauf (182), senior Leo Scafani (HWT), and senior Kyle Denny (170) qualifying to continue Saturday. The final results had Hoerauf placing second and Scafani placing seventh.

Hoerauf won matches against East Helena, Billings Skyview, Jefferson, and Malta before falling in the championship to Schoen from Chinook. Scafani beat wrestlers from Big Sandy and Three Forks, before falling in the semifinals to Great Falls High. He then won against Laurel, lost to Cut Bank, and won against Billings West to claim 7th. Kyle Denny also won four matches. After a first-round loss to Choteau, he came back strong with wins over Jefferson, Broadwater, Ronan, and Colstrip, before falling to Fairfield.

Others to wrestle Friday were eighth grader Tucker Witzel (103) with a record of 0-2, junior Isaac Skogen (120) 0-2, junior Reilly Slater (126) 0-2, junior Ivar Radcliffe (132) 3-2, senior Dane Hoover (145) 1-2, senior Gavin Watson (152) 0-2, and senior Karson Klapan (205) 2-2. In the girl's division, Cassidy Collins (126) 1-2.

On Saturday, those not in CMR’s tournament went to a tournament at Great Falls High School. Whitehall entered 22 wrestlers, with four able to place. Witzel finished the day with a 3-1 record and placed second. Ethan Wock (182) also placed second with a 3-1 record. Watson (152) 3-1 placed second as well. Placing third was Nick Denny (145) with a 3-1 record. Others to wrestle were, Adam Martinez (103) 0-2, Gunner South (103) 0-2, Collins (126) 1-2, Levi Fuller (132) 1-0, Joey Beebout (132) 0-2, Jack Raty (145) 2-2, Braxton Walker, (145) 0-2, Anthoney Porter (152) 0-2, Skogen (120) 1-2, Slater (126) 0-2, Radcliffe (132) 1-1, Blake Ritz (145) 1-2, Hoover (145) 0-2, Wesley Biggers (152) 3-2, Blake DuBois (160) 1-2, Klapan (205) 1-2.

As evident by the number of matches, the Whitehall wrestlers represented well. Look to next week’s paper for the results of the December 19th dual against Anaconda.
