Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 12/14/2022

The Christmas Festival was a big hit at the Library and we had almost 600 people there celebrating in a variety of ways. I want to take a second and thank the many people who made all the fun happen.

First, a big thank you to Deanna Mydland from PBSKids and her helper Katey Crusch for all of the wonderful crafts and projects they provided for the children. Special thanks also to the Friends of the Library who manned the Book Sale, as well as the Winter Wear Give Away and the Cookie Reception tables.

This year we were thrilled to have beautiful music provided by Ron Jung and his talented musicians, which made the whole afternoon more festive. Santa Claus spent the afternoon giving children and parents a special picture opportunity while his elf, Kay Crusch, regaled the audience with her version of reindeer troubles. Thank you both! And last but not least, my amazing staff who discovered their fearless leader picked all of last week to be out with a nasty virus. To Brandi, Angie, and Zoa, you are the very best!

This year the Library will be closed on December 24th, 25th, and 26th of December so the staff may spend the holiday with their families. We will also be closed on December 31st, January 1st, and January 2nd for New Year’s. Because the actual holiday is on Sunday, the county closes its buildings on Monday after. Hopefully, everyone will have this time at home to rest, enjoy their families, and get ready for January. The calendar is full up for the new year and we are going to be offering more programs than ever.

Next week we will be holding both the Rockhound Group at 5:30 PM and the History Book Club at 6 PM on Monday, December 19th. The Rockhounds needed more time to share all of their treasures with each other so they are now meeting at 5:30 PM. This is a special meeting day for our pseudo-historians as they normally meet on the last Monday of the month. They will be back to their regular time next month.

Mystery Book Club and Lit to Flic will be meeting on Tuesday, December 20th at 5 PM and 6 PM, respectively. There will be no programs the week of December 26 through the 31st as the staff is taking vacation time and getting ready for January. If you have not signed up for the SAILS class and need more information, please call the Library at 287-3763 as the class will be limited to 12 people. If there is enough interest we will add another class.

January calendars will be out by the end of this week. One of the things you can look forward to is “The Great Mystery Baking Contest” which blends the love of sleuthing with some deadly delightful treats. Stay tuned for more information on how to enter and how to get in on the tasting!
