Ann Gillis Hanson, 85, of Whitehall, MT passed away on November 30, 2022. Ann was born on December 11, 1936, to Hugh "Bud" and Mary Powers Gillis in Missoula, MT. She attended the Immaculate Conception grade school and graduated from Butte High in 1954. She went on to San Jose State University and earned a degree in elementary education. Ann was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Her career in teaching elementary school in Butte spanned three decades.
A lifelong Catholic, Arm was active in parish activities. She was an avid bridge player achieving the rank of Life Master. Music was an essential part of her life. She was an accomplished pianist performing with many local bands.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Hugh (Bud) and Mary Powers Gillis; daughter, Maggie Wahl Brown; infant brother, John Gillis; husbands: Eugene Wahl and James Hanson. Ann is survived by her companion, Gene Wildish; children and grandchildren: son, Mike Wahl and his children: Brigid, Katie, and Mickey Wahl; daughter, Kathleen Wahl and her children and spouses: Brendan and Holli Dennehy, Neal and KC Dennehy, and Maura Dennehy; Kirsten Spolar and her children: Mikel Ann Spolar, Brittney Spolar, Brooke (Kurt) Svejkovsky, Vinnie and Jacy Svejkovsky, and Brandt Martinez; son-in-law, Jeff Brown and Maggie's children: Rebecca Cooper (Jeff), Rachel, and Marcus Brown; great-grandchildren: Leelo Burch, Elizabeth Ruckdaschel, Tyken, Gunner, and Camri South, Dunagan and Harper Dermehy, Hunter and Hurley Bronec, Salem Stanton, Elliana and Ronan Cooper, and great-grandson, Svejkovsky due in March. Also surviving her are brother and sister-in-law, Joseph and Nancy Gillis; sister and brother-in-law, Kittie and R.G. Neifert; brother-in-law, John Wahl. She had numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family including: Kurt (Kris) Gillis (Cody, Kaleigh, Kaitlyne, Kealey, Kai), Megan (John) Mischkot (Michael and Jacob), Korey Gillis (Greysen, Carsen), Patrick Neifert, Joseph Neifert (Ingrid) (Elizabeth), Mary Neifert (Anoil) and Morgan Nazar.
The visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at 5:00 PM at St. Ann's Catholic Church with the rosary vigil following immediately after. Funeral Mass will be conducted on Wednesday, December 7, at 11 AM at St Ann's Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, all donations can be made to the charity of donor's choice.
