Serving Southern Jefferson County in the Great State of Montana

Between the Stacks: 11/30/2022

The Holocaust Project will meet this week on Thursday, December 1st, at 6:30 PM for a combination meeting of November and December. The committees will meet at 5:30 PM followed by the book discussion group at 6:30 PM. There are many things to work on including an evening with former news reporter Mike Dennison, the Survivor/Rescuer Fair, and spring speaking engagements. The book discussion group is open to anyone who would like to join. For more information, please contact the Library at 287-3763.

In December Lit to Flics will be discussing Charles Dickens's classic “A Christmas Carol.” This great group reads a classic book monthly, listens to lectures by literature teacher Luke Forney, and watches a film version of the book. The discussions are lively, and everyone is invited every Tuesday evening at 6 PM. We will be choosing our books for the spring semester this week so bring your best ideas!

In January the Library will be hosting “The Great Mystery Baking Contest.” Contestants will select their favorite mystery book or series and make a dish representing that genre. The winners will receive prizes and the public will be invited to come to taste all the entries and vote on their favorite. Watch for more details here.

The Library will be gearing up to decorate for the Christmas Festival on December 10th. We will be open from 9 AM to 4 PM and celebrate with live performers, the Winter Wear Giveaway, Dollar a Bag at the book sale, children’s crafts with Deanna Mydland of PBSKids, the Friends Cookie Reception, and of course, Santa will be here in the afternoon. A full schedule will be in this column next week so watch for your favorite activities.

If you would like to donate hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, coats, or other winter wear to pass out to those in need; please just drop them off at the front desk. Last year we provided winter wear to over 250 children and young adults through the generosity of Whitehall residents.

We have pulled all the Christmas movies and put them on display to check out on the new movie shelf. The Library has multiple holiday movies to enjoy for adults, young adults, and children. The print collection also has a special section of holiday books in the picture book area, across from the easy readers.

The Library hours are Monday and Wednesday 9 AM to 7 PM, Tuesday and Thursday 11 AM to 7 PM, Friday 9 AM to 5 PM, and Saturday 9 AM to 1 PM.
